- Mix up your content to interest your fan base. No single post will be interesting to everyone who follows your brand. Mix up the content with: a) your own original content (which can be photos, videos, blogs, articles), b) other people’s content within your industry, c) other people’s content outside your industry, d) timely topics in the news, e) funny pics and quotes.
- Post regularly. Posting on a regular schedule will not only get your information in front of more people, but will improve your search engine optimization. Social is now being indexed in the search engines and can have a positive impact on your company’s search results. Consider using an automated posting website like Hootsuite and/or use the Facebook scheduler for Facebook posts, this will allow you to post content for a certain period of time without doing it daily. Over time, if you have certain content that posts on specific days or times, your audience will be looking for your posts, and if they don’t come over their feed, will be clicking over to your page to see what’s there!
- Use hashtags. When posting use relevant hashtags so your content can be found in hashtag searches, this will broaden your reach and increase your fan base. Before just typing in a hashtag on a particular platform, research it for yourself to be certain it is a good choice for your business. Current research shows people will click on hashtags as long as there are no more than 2 in your post.
- Link to your website. An important purpose to using social media is to drive people to your website or a particular landing page on your website. End 90% of your posts with a URL link to a spot on your website that will either give more information or have them complete a call-to-action, such as subscribing to your whitepaper, blog, or enewsletter. Remember also that your website should include links and sign-up features to your social media platforms.
- Study your analytics. How will you know what’s working if you are not taking a look at analytical data available to you? KPI’s, (key performance indicators), you should be taking a close look at are: which type posts get the most engagement, when are my fans online, what are my fans clicking on, what is the post reach, where is the traffic coming from. By understanding your audience and their behaviors, you will be able to deliver more of what is getting noticed. Another important piece of the social puzzle is to take the time to analyze your competition. Check out what is and what is not working for them.
